Q: What is a waterjet?
A: Waterjet Cutting is a process where water is pressurized up to 60,000 psi and forced through a small nozzle in order to cut complex and intricate shapes in a variety of materials cleanly and precisely.
Q: What is the difference between abrasive cutting and water only cutting?
A: Abrasivejet cutting adds an abrasive, typically garnet, to the water for cutting hard or thick materials. Pure waterjet cutting handles soft materials without an abrasive.
Q: What type of materials can be cut with a Waterjet?
A: Waterjet Cutting is suited for a wide range of materials, such as:
Acrylic
Alloys
Aluminum
Brass
Carpet
Ceramic
Composites
Copper
Corian
Felt
Foam
Fiberglass
Formica
Gaskets
Glass
Granite
Inconel
Insulation
Laminates
Leather
Marble
Plastics
Quartz
Rubber
Silicon
Stainless Steel
Titanium
Wood
Q: What can not be cut with a waterjet?
A: The only material we have come across is tempered glass, since it would shatter as it cuts.
Q: What thickness range of materials can be cut?
A: Anything from .050" up to 6" thick.
Q: What material sheet size can be accommodated?
A: Anything up to 48" x 96".
Q: To what accuracy can parts be cut?
A: We can hold +/-.005" in most cases.
Q: Can you cut in 3 Dimensions?
A: No, we are currently only set up for 2 dimensions.
Q: Why should my parts be cut on a waterjet?
A: Waterjet cutting tackles jobs often considered too costly or impossible with conventional cutting methods.
Q: Why should I have my parts cut by Waterjets Unlimited?
A: Because Quality has NO Competition!
Q: Do I need a CAD Drawing to get my parts cut?
A: No, we can design the parts in our cutting software.
Q: What are the advantages of using a waterjet?
No heat affected zones
No mechanical stresses
Cuts virtually any shape
Narrow kerf
Reduced need for post machining due to satin smooth finish
Cut a wide range of thickness
Cutting infinite shapes with one tool
Fast turn around
Clean cutting process w/out the use of gasses or oils
Easily switch between high volume production and single piece prototype production
Precision and Accuracy
Simple fixturing
Q: What file types do you accept?
A: The best types are .DWG or .DXF files.
Q: Can I email you files?
A: Yes, send them to Mark@waterjetsunlimited.com
